my favorite subject

Imagen
To be completely honest I think that this semester is not my favorite branch, perhaps some have quite interesting content but the way in which these branches have been made have not been the best, so you can not "enjoy" the best part of the subject, but I would say that I like the most is analytical chemistry 1. Is a branch that would be much better with laboratory demonstrations because the subject that most caught my attention and also suffered more to fully understand was the detection of anions and cations, For this, we saw many procedures that must be done in the laboratory, which at the time of doing them must be very complicated or more than anything to know how to organize so as not to be confused with the results obtained, so far they were only explanations of the teacher but imagining how it would be to perform them made me choose this branch as my favorite.

How can my studies make the world a better place?

Imagen
I study biochemistry, even though it is a small and not very well-known career, I find it very important. It is a relatively new career but many of the discoveries of people who studied it were very important and marked the world of medicine. some of the studies that can be done are to find a solution to several diseases that so far have not found a cure or a treatment.  I see myself finding something that helps people, more specifically I like the area of genetics, and to find a cure for a genetic disease such as Down syndrome or Parkinson, would be the greatest achievement in my career, I know it is ambitious, but to see that these people can have a better quality of life, makes me strive at every moment to be closer to achieving it.

person I admire

One expert in the field that I admire is a Chilean biochemist, his name is Gabriel Leon (his last name is a coincidence, he is not related to me).  He studied at the Catholic University of Chile and graduated as a biochemist, a doctor in cellular and molecular biology. He is currently an academic and researcher at the Andres Bello University.  I chose him to talk about him because when I was younger my mother gave me a book of his, called "La ciencia del pop", this is a science book that talks about different topics that can be curious for a child or a person who has doubts about things that happen, the best thing about this book is that it is written so that everyone can understand it, maybe some things are more specific but for someone with an interest in science is an initial way to understand some things. Gabriel besides having a research in science, is one of the main exponents in the popularization of science, as the book I mentioned before has many more, and other publ

my favorite photo

This photo makes me a little embarrassed, but it is one of the best memories I have from when I was little and that's why it is one of my favorites, also because now I'm not much of a photo taker and neither is my family. It was taken in 2003, on the beach "La Serena", my father took it and I remember that I went out angry because the wave had already thrown me several times before and I had been all stuck with the sand. In the afternoon of that day, my parents got tired of being in the water so they ended up making a pool, which was a hole closer to them, and filled it by carrying water with a bucket. It was one of the first times I went to the beach and I loved playing in the sand making sandcastles or wet sand cakes that my mom pretended to eat.  Now I quite like going to the beach although I am very white, and the sun burns me too much, the water on some beaches is very cold so I don't swim so much anymore but the air and being able to walk along the shore,

my favorite food

My favorite food is usually eaten in winter and has a sweet taste. My best memory is of my grandmother making the dough on her way home from school on a cold day.  They are not very difficult to prepare, they have normal ingredients like flour, egg, a little water, butter and can also include some special touches depending on who is cooking them.  I don't think they are very healthy because you have to fry them and they also have a sweet powder on top. I'm not good at cooking, but this recipe is pretty easy, although it does get tiring having to put the dough together. now we make the recipe with my mom, they are not very similar to my grandmother's, but we try. If you still don't know what it is, I can tell you that it is Chilean food :)

the surprise object

The first time I saw it was at a birthday party when I was little and I knew that having one in the house would be amazing, but it was a little big to be able to leave it in the kitchen or anywhere else. It can be found in many places such as fairs, in shopping malls, or even on the beach. I recently found a much smaller version which is much easier to use, so buying it was one of the best things I ever did, although using it too often is not the best idea.  it has helped me several times with cravings, or in times of stress from college.  to use it you have to plug it in and put the special, a little sugar and oil inside.

my career

I started out wanting to be a ballerina since my mother always told me that she called me Isadora the ballet dancer, then I wanted to be a lawyer but eventually, I realized that reading so much and history was not my thing, although I must admit that with the papers I ended up reading a lot anyway.  When I was already in my fourth year I realized that the scientific side was where I wanted to focus, but at the beginning where I looked, it told me that I had to study medicine to be able to work in research, since my focus was genetics, until in a career fair of this university I found biochemistry, at the time of applying I hesitated a lot between the one I am and engineering in biotechnology, but as the laboratory work was what I wanted, I decided for this one. my experience in this university has not been so good, since due to the pandemic, nobody has been able to live the "university life" as I imagined it. I was lucky that I was in a university before and I knew how it was
